Solec Solar- & Elektromobil AG est fondée le 8 septembre 1988 à Zollikofen (Berne). La société vend des voitures solaires et électriques, ainsi que des stations de recharge solaires. Elle exploite aussi un atelier de réparation. Michael Brand et Marianne Brand-Friedli, cofondateurs avec Peter Baumann, sont déjà à la tête du garage Uwag Automobile AG, dans la même localité. En 1990, le conseil d’administration accueille plusieurs nouveaux membres, dont Uwe Zahn, qui devient président l’année suivante. En 1991, Solec Solar- & Elektromobil AG modifie ses statuts, qui mentionnent non seulement la vente, mais aussi la production des biens susmentionnés. Michael et Marianne Brand quittent le comité, puis le siège social est déplacé à Safnern, près de Bienne. L’entreprise ferme deux ans plus tard.
